Best phone in Nepal 2023

As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, the smartphone industry is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. In 2023, we witnessed an array of groundbreaking smartphones that revolutionized the way we communicate, work, and stay entertained. In this blog, we present to you the top 10 best phones of 2023, each offering exceptional features, impressive specifications, and cutting-edge innovations that have set them apart from the competition.

1. Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra stands out as the top choice in the compilation of finest smartphones available in Nepal. Over time, Samsung's flagship devices consistently maintain their reputation for excellence. With the S23 Ultra, it seems like the company has truly perfected the formula for a flagship smartphone. While its appearance remains largely similar to its predecessor, and the specifications show only slight incremental improvements, these small enhancements collectively contribute to making the Galaxy S23 Ultra one of the premier smartphones in Nepal.

Let's begin by discussing the performance aspect, which has historically been a concern with Samsung's flagship smartphones. Although we finally received the Qualcomm variant of the Galaxy S22 series last year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip itself presented some inherent thermal issues. However, the S22 Ultra managed these challenges admirably. Now, with the Galaxy S23 lineup, Samsung has introduced a custom "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy" processor that delivers exceptional performance and efficiency.

Consequently, the S23 Ultra exhibits remarkable speed and responsiveness across all tasks, be it everyday activities or gaming. The phone's upgraded vapor cooling system ensures that it remains cool during extended usage. In our tests, it not only surpassed the iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of frames per second and temperature but also outperformed it in practically every game we evaluated.

Battery life

The battery performance of the Galaxy S23 Ultra is equally impressive, if not better, than Apple's flagship devices. Despite using the same 5000mAh battery as the S22 Ultra, we consistently obtained around 7 to 8 hours of screen-on time. This can be attributed to the efficiency improvements of the 8 Gen 2 chip and the more energy-efficient display employed by Samsung. As for the display, it goes without saying that it is one of the finest smartphone displays currently available, boasting exceptional colors, wide viewing angles, high brightness levels, and overall visual quality.

Furthermore, the S23 Ultra features an upgraded 200MP primary camera. Compared to the images captured by the S22 Ultra's 108MP main shooter, the S23 Ultra exhibits significantly better details, sharpness, and reduced noise. In most cases, it even captures superior photos compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Additionally, the periscope camera, capable of 100x zoom shots, remains unparalleled. Although there is still room for improvement with the S23 Ultra's cameras, it is undoubtedly one of the most reliable camera phones currently available in Nepal.

2 . Iphone 14 pro max

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Earning the second spot on our list of top smartphones in Nepal are the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max from Apple. These devices come with significant upgrades, particularly in terms of the display, compared to the iPhone 13 series. Over the years, Apple has been gradually reducing the size of the notch that debuted with the iPhone X in 2017. With the iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple introduces a complete and interactive redesign known as "Dynamic Island."

The non-Pro iPhone 14 does not feature the aforementioned Dynamic Island, which is why the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are particularly noteworthy. This feature allows users to quickly check the ongoing activity of background apps, such as music playback, timers, map directions, and more, with just a glance. Long-pressing the Dynamic Island also summons the playback control widget. These interactions are accompanied by exceptionally smooth animations that greatly enhance the user experience.

In addition, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup maintains the same 120Hz Super Retina XDR OLED display as their predecessors. However, Apple has now introduced always-on display (AoD) support for the first time on an iPhone. The previous implementation of Apple's AoD, although unique, tended to consume significant battery power. With the iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple allows users to customize their AoD profiles, resembling the offerings provided by Android smartphone manufacturers.

Cameras

Similarly, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max introduce an upgraded 48MP primary camera, while the rest of the camera setup remains largely unchanged from the previous year. In our tests, the iPhone 14 Pro often produced more visually appealing images with improved dynamic range and pleasing contrast compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Although the difference may not be significant, the main camera of the iPhone 14 Pro generally captures better shots. Additionally, there are a couple of exciting new camera features, including "Action Mode," which enables users to shoot remarkably stable videos even while running.

Enabling all these capabilities is the new A16 Bionic chip. Unlike the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus mentioned earlier, Apple has introduced a new processor specifically for its latest Pro iPhones. However, it's worth noting that the A16 chip is only a minor improvement over last year's A15 Bionic, so in terms of pure performance, there isn't a significant difference for the standard iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. On the bright side, both models excel in terms of battery life, with the latter offering particularly impressive longevity. However, it is disappointing to see that Apple has not made any efforts to introduce faster charging speeds, which could have been a notable improvement.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Specifications:

  • Body :

  •  160.7 x 77.6 x 7.9 mm, 240g

  • Display

3. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Adding to our compilation of top flagship smartphones in Nepal is another offering from Samsung. It's no secret that the Galaxy S22 Ultra stood out as one of the most impressive Android phones of the previous year. Considering that it is still available in Nepal at a more affordable price compared to the new S23 Ultra, it remains a compelling flagship option worth considering. The Galaxy S22 Ultra continues to excel in various aspects, including its impressive design, build quality, display, performance, and cameras. Overall, it confidently maintains its position as a solid choice in the flagship smartphone market.

The phone in question serves as a seamless continuation of Samsung's popular "Galaxy Note" series, known for its rectangular and boxy design. It departs from the appearance of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, featuring a sharp and brutalist design that incorporates a built-in slot for the S Pen. The bold aesthetic of the S22 Ultra is further enhanced by its robust construction. The device boasts Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both the front and back, ensuring durability, while the armor aluminum frames provide increased resistance against drops and scratches.

Fantastic display

The phone boasts a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a responsive 240Hz touch sampling rate. Interacting with the screen is consistently impressive, delivering a satisfying experience. With a peak brightness of 1750 nits, the display remains easily visible even in bright outdoor conditions, aided by Samsung's "Vision Booster" feature.

In contrast to the regular Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, the S22 Ultra is equipped with an LTPO 2.0 controller, allowing for dynamic refresh rate adjustment ranging from 1 to 120Hz. This feature intelligently adapts the refresh rate to save battery power. Samsung opted to reserve its top-notch camera system for the S22 Ultra last year. While the camera system showcases noticeable advantages in low-light situations and zoom capabilities, overall, we found its performance to be quite similar to that of the Galaxy S22+.

The performance of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is truly commendable and leaves no room for complaints. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip (instead of the Exynos 2200 found in European models) and running Samsung's One UI, the phone provides a smooth and enjoyable user experience. Furthermore, with a promise of 4 years of major OS updates, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is set to age gracefully compared to other flagship phones that offer fewer update cycles. Despite being a year old, the S22 Ultra unquestionably deserves its place on our list of the best smartphones available in Nepal.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Specifications:

4 • Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+

Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+

The following smartphones on our list are Samsung's latest offerings, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. These devices present a significant set of improvements over their predecessors, making them a reliable choice for those seeking a flagship Samsung phone this year, without the need to splurge on the S23 Ultra.

As anticipated, both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ feature a familiar design with premium hardware and other desirable features. In a move towards a cohesive design language across the entire lineup, Samsung has eliminated the camera housing, which adds to the overall aesthetic appeal. Moreover, both models incorporate Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front and back, along with Samsung's next-generation armor aluminum frame, ensuring enhanced durability. Additionally, these phones possess an IP68 rating, making them resistant to dust and water.

Being flagship Samsung phones, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ deliver a fantastic display experience. With their 6.1-inch and 6.6-inch AMOLED screens respectively, these devices offer exceptional color reproduction, vibrant contrast, and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. While Samsung phones do not support Dolby Vision playback, this omission is not a significant drawback. Additionally, both the Galaxy S23 and S23+ are equipped with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, which provides enhanced reliability compared to standard optical fingerprint sensors, setting them apart from most other brands.

Qualcomm chip

In the South Asian market, including Nepal, Samsung's flagship phones from the Galaxy S22 series introduced Qualcomm chips, bringing improved performance. With the Galaxy S23 lineup, Samsung continues its collaboration with Qualcomm by equipping the entire series with a custom "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy" chip. These custom chips are higher binned versions of the standard 8 Gen 2 processor, offering overclocked prime CPU and GPU cores for enhanced performance and efficiency.

Samsung's custom Android skin, One UI, has made remarkable strides with the introduction of the Android 13-based One UI 5 update. This user experience is expected to further improve over time as Samsung has committed to providing 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates for these phones. While the Galaxy S23 duo may not have the same high-resolution sensor or 100x zoom capabilities as the S23 Ultra, they are still reliable camera phones for both photos and videos. Additionally, the battery life of the Galaxy S23 models has notably improved compared to their predecessors.

Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ Specifications:

Display:

  • 6.1 / 6.6-inch AMOLED screen, FHD+, 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass Victus 2

5 . iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

Securing the fifth position on our list of best smartphones in Nepal are the newly released iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. These models serve as more affordable alternatives to the flagship iPhone 14 Pro series. If you prefer the traditional iPhone notch design over the "Dynamic Island" redesign, then these iPhones are the ones for you. Additionally, both devices recently received a much-needed price drop, making them even more enticing options.

Notably, Apple has chosen to discontinue the "mini" iPhones this time around. As a result, the base iPhone 14 model is now the most compact option available. Furthermore, the iPhone 14 Plus marks the resurrection of the "Plus" variant for the first time since the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017. It is worth mentioning that the iPhone 14 Plus is essentially identical to its non-Plus counterpart, except for its larger display and battery size.

No major upgrade

In terms of upgrades, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus don't offer many improvements compared to the previous iPhone 13 series. Both models feature a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, respectively, with standard 60Hz refresh rates. The camera setup remains unchanged, consisting of a 12MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP front-facing camera.

Regarding performance, these iPhones do not feature Apple's latest A16 Bionic chip. Instead, they are powered by the previous-generation A15 Bionic chip. However, considering that the A16 chip does not offer significant upgrades and the A15 Bionic chip remains a powerful processor, the performance is still commendable. In terms of memory, both models come with a base storage of 128GB and 6GB of RAM. Despite the compromises compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, the new "Crash Detection" and "Emergency SOS" features from Apple are available on these models.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus Specifications:

Display:

  • 6.1 / 6.7-inch OLED screen, FHD+, 60Hz refresh rate, Ceramic Shield

Chipset:

  • Apple A15 Bionic (5nm mobile platform)

Memory:

  • 6GB RAM, 128/256/512GB storage (fixed)

6 . Xiaomi 13 Pro

Xiaomi 13 Pro
Xiaomi has been consistently launching its flagship phones in Nepal, and the availability of the new Xiaomi 13 Pro is definitely a welcome addition. This particular model stands out as the most improved and complete premium phone from the company, earning it the well-deserved seventh spot on our list of best flagship smartphones in Nepal. The standout feature of this phone is undoubtedly its camera system.

To begin with, it boasts a remarkable 1-inch type sensor, making it the only phone in Nepal to offer such a sensor size. While other smartphones have incorporated Sony's 50MP IMX989 1-inch sensor, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is the sole device in Nepal to feature this particular image sensor. Coupled with Leica optical lens and various optimizations, the Xiaomi 13 Pro excels as one of the best camera phones available in Nepal. Its photos exhibit excellent color accuracy, natural sharpness, and the large sensor size contributes to a pleasing bokeh effect for that natural background blur.

Great camera

The Xiaomi 13 Pro utilizes the impressive Sony sensor to capture exceptional shots, particularly in low-light conditions. Alongside the main camera, the 50MP telephoto sensor delivers equally remarkable portrait shots and 3x zoomed-in images. However, Xiaomi could improve the performance of the 50MP ultrawide sensor and the 32MP front-facing camera, as they didn't reach the same level of excellence as the other cameras. Notably, the Xiaomi 13 Pro disappoints in terms of selfie video quality, limited to a maximum of 1080p at 30 frames per second, which is underwhelming considering the overall fantastic camera experience.

In terms of design and build quality, Xiaomi has paid great attention to detail. The phone offers a choice between ceramic or silicone polymer back finishes, both of which provide a fantastic tactile feel. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the Xiaomi 13 Pro is IP68 dust and water-resistant, making it the second flagship Xiaomi phone in the international market to possess such strong ingress protection. However, some users have reported that the weight distribution of the phone feels uneven, which is a minor concern.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts a stunning display on the front. It features a large 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED panel that offers vibrant and sharp visuals. With a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak brightness of 1900 nits, the display ensures smooth and immersive viewing experiences. Additionally, the inclusion of Dolby Vision HDR support enhances the quality of streaming content from platforms like Netflix. However, some users may prefer more subtle curves on the sides of the display.

In terms of performance and battery life, the Xiaomi 13 Pro delivers commendable results. The phone is equipped with powerful hardware components that ensure smooth multitasking and efficient performance. While specific details about the processor and battery capacity are not mentioned, it can be inferred that the device offers a reliable and long-lasting user experience based on the overall impression provided.

Xiaomi 13 Pro Specifications:

Display:

  • 6.73-inch AMOLED screen, QHD+, 120Hz refresh rate, Gorilla Glass Victus

Chipset:

  •  Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 5G (4nm mobile platform)

Memory:

  •  8/12GB LPDDR5X RAM, 128/256/512GB UFS 4.0 storage (fixed)

Software & UI:

  •  MIUI 14 on top of Android 13 (upgradeable)

Rear Camera:

  • Triple (50MP primary, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP telephoto)

Front Camera:

  • 32MP sensor (hole-punch)

Security:

  • Fingerprint scanner (optical in-display)

Connectivity:

  •  Dual-SIM (Nano), WiFi 7 (dual-band), Bluetooth 5.3, GPS / AGPS / Glonass / Galileo / Beidou / NavIC, NFC, USB-C, NFC, 4G LTE, 5G

Sensors:

  • Accelerometer, Ambient light, Barometer, E-compass, Flicker, Gyroscope, Hall, IR blaster, Proximity

Battery:

  • 4800mAh with 120W charging (120W adapter inside the box)

Price in Nepal:

  • NPR 129,999 (12/256GB)

7 . OnePlus 11

OnePlus 11
Despite being ranked seventh, OnePlus has achieved a significant feat with its flagship smartphones in Nepal, as the OnePlus 11 has secured a place on our list. While the company faced criticism in the past for its older flagship phones, including the predecessor of the OnePlus 11, this model marks a turning point. However, it is unfortunate that in Nepal, the perception of the OnePlus 11 remains unchanged, as it is still considered "overpriced" despite its competitive pricing in the global market.

Nevertheless, the OnePlus 11 boasts impressive specifications, such as the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, providing powerful performance. On the software side, the phone comes with OxygenOS 13, which is based on Android 13. OnePlus has also made a noteworthy commitment to software support, offering 4 years of operating system updates and 5 years of security updates for this smartphone. The device is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, which may be considered moderate, and supports 100W fast wired charging. However, OnePlus has chosen not to include wireless charging this time.

Excellent Display

At the front, the OnePlus 11 features a tall 6.7-inch 2K QHD E4 AMOLED panel. The display is curved and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It offers a high refresh rate of 120Hz and an instant touch sampling rate of 1000Hz. However, the only aspect we find lacking is the brightness, as the global peak brightness of the OnePlus 11 is limited to 800 nits.

To enhance the multimedia experience, the phone is equipped with stereo speakers. Additionally, OnePlus has incorporated a robust vibrating motor to deliver excellent haptic feedback. In terms of design, the OnePlus 11 sports a curved back panel with an all-chrome and glossy finish, ensuring a comfortable grip. The phone also includes the much-appreciated alert slider, although it does not come with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Instead, it has an IP64 certification, which should offer sufficient protection against minor water spills and similar incidents.

The OnePlus 11 is equipped with a triple-camera setup at the back. This setup includes a 50MP IMX890 primary camera, a 48MP IMX581 ultrawide camera, and a 32MP IMX709 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom capability. Despite not having the high resolution or a 1" image sensor found in some of its competitors, the OnePlus 11's cameras perform admirably, capturing impressive photos and videos. While there may be a few limitations to consider, overall, the camera system on the OnePlus 11 is considered to be of high quality.
